Trailside Express

About Trailside Express

Martin’s Trailside Express first opened its doors to the public in November 1998. For many years prior, they had offered diesel and gasoline sales on a much smaller scale to cardlock customersTrailside Express at their trucking facility on nearby East Earl Road.

When new regulations for underground storage tanks were introduced, owner Earl Martin was very reluctant to replace his tanks on the existing lot since it was severely congested and would not provide opportunity for additional expansion. He began searching for another nearby site that could accommodate the business and allow it to grow. When some nearby land was available for purchase, Earl and his family formed a partnership to purchase the tract where Trailside is today.

As the family thought about the location and began planning, they chose to expand the original concept and provide additional services along with the diesel and gasoline sales they’d done previously. One idea led to another, and ultimately it was decided to build a convenience store/truck stop and car wash on the site. The new venture would operate as a division of Earl R. Martin, Inc, which was established in 1965.

It was a huge undertaking, and was an entirely new venture for the Martin family. It was not uncommon to hear the opinion voiced that this type of operation would never be able to succeed in the little village of East Earl, however, Earl Sr. had spent many years behind the wheel of his own trucks, and knew the trucking industry well. His vision, keen business sense, and years of experience, along with the family’s deep faith gave them a peace about proceeding with the project.

Since that momentous day in 1998, Trailside has enjoyed steady growth, and become a familiar landmark in the community. Truckers from every state and province have found their way to Trailside as word has spread about the friendly staff, clean facility, and delicious food!

In January 2010, Trailside incorporated and became a separate entity. Earl is retired and his daughter, Judy, serves as President. She works closely with a very capable and experienced team of managers who have been with the company for years.

The Trailside ownership and staff strives to cultivate ongoing standards of excellence throughout the organization, and they consider it a privilege to provide service and hospitality to the transportation industry and local community. Stop by and see them soon!
